You shut me out; You shut everyone out.
Shoulders crumbled beneath the weight
Of a time now long past.
You drowned in the overwhelming fear
Of an assault that would never come.
The screams of blue jays atop a cracking oak.
Turned your body cold and numb.
The incessant chopping of the fan
Kept you on edge.
The sun opened fire on your window,
Bullets of light, cutting through old dust,
Rising from the battlefield of your room.
The line between your nightmares and reality
Became more and more distorted,
Until it was all just too much.
No more screaming;
No more cracking;
No more chopping;
No more anything.
