Count

Computers used to be humans,
in offices and basements,
abaci sat on the right hand of kings.
index cards and vacuum tubes
who’d’ve thought this would be the end.

I am the last of them,
and goddamned will I hold on dearly.
Grasping to my father’s father’s father’s abacus.
Moving slowly, perfectly, the beads
that count out my last days.
